The first thing that impressed me about Firefox was the ability to have multiple pages open at a time on separate tabs and the ease of switching between the tabs using the Ctrl — Tab keyboard shortcut.
You can even set up a multiple tabs to open up as your home pages by going into Tools – Options and choosing Set Current as Home Page when you have the tabs open you wish to have open on start up.
This works particularly well for Job Searches because you could have Monster, Career Builder, and your local newspaper classifieds open in individual tabs at startup.
If you are going to improve your Job Search, you need to upgrade your browser.
Mozilla’s Firefox 1.5 Browser’s killer feature is the Tabbed Interface. Why is this important? Imagine starting your browser and tabs for the Web Developer Jobs in Boston, your local newspaper employment ads, and of course JobsLog open automatically.
Naturally switching between tabs in as easy as ctrl – tab. You may also easily add new tabs with the other pages you are using for your Job search.
I’ve watched family & friends struggle when looking for a job for years:
- You find a job you are interested in applying for.
- Search your computer to find the latest copy of your resume.
- Create or Edit a cover letter or decide it isn’t worth the effort.
- Print or email the resume and cover letter.
- Start Again!!!
Does this work? It does work eventually but what doesn’t it do? How many times have you received a phone call reply and had to search for the original ad (I usually found it after the call was completed). What did you say in the cover letter? How long has it been since you sent the letter? Have you applied to this company before? Can you access this information from the road?
My goal is to create a system to track and store the original ads, your resume(s), generate coverletters, and track the information about the jobs you have applied for in an online format.
Check it out at Job Log .
