Interesting article about blogging

Guy Kawaski posted an interview with David Sifry, the founder and CEO of Technorati .  A very good explanation of what you should do to improve your rankings on Technorati.

I must take it to heart.

All right, I concede

Filed under: Firefox, Introduction, Tools — Michael Brennan-White @ 11:03 pm

The numbers are in.  Right now on a good day, Firefox Usage is only at about 10%  of the total browser types used for the day.  I changed the pages for JobSearchLog.com to change the way links work.

#--------------------------------------------------------# Profile Name: jobsearchlog.com# Date Range: 7/6/2006 - 7/6/2006#--------------------------------------------------------

#--------------------------------------------------------# Browser Versions#--------------------------------------------------------Browsers VisitsInternet Explorer|	122Opera |	2Firefox |	2Safari |	1Netscape	|	1

I am using browser detection to determine if the user is using Internet Explorer or not.  If they are, the links will target the originating page.   Otherwise a new tab is created for most links.  This allows easier copying and pasting among other capabilities.

I am far from excited about having to make the change, but my fear is that it could be confusing IE users when so many windows are opened.

JobSearchLog.com is NOT

Filed under: Introduction, Organization, Tools — Michael Brennan-White @ 11:17 pm

Just to clear my brain.  Job Search Log is not:

  •  A Job Search Engine
  • A place to login to your state’s Unemployment Department Pages
  • Using your personal information for any nefarious purpose
  • Making any money yet.
  • Hard to Use

I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions about JobSearchLog

I can’t even afford a laptop for them to steal

Filed under: Introduction, Organization, Tools — Michael Brennan-White @ 4:31 pm

DALLAS — A laptop containing personal information from thousands of blood donors _ including Social Security numbers and medical information _ was stolen from a local office of the American Red Cross, but officials said the information was encrypted.

How many of these stories have we seen in the last couple of weeks. It is beyond comprehension that these kind of things are happening as often as they are. And then a Red Cross Spokesman said: Local officials alerted police and national Red Cross offices, Lundy said. Donors were not notified about the missing information, and the Red Cross had no legal obligation to do so. That’s great to know they had no legal obligation. How about a moral obligation?

I was watching one day as my wife was entering in the information to sign up for a Paw Points campaign for Kitty Litter. It was your typical marketing campaign asking for names and information about everyone in the house. It is because of experiences like that I decided to ask for only the bare minimum of information to use Job Search Log.

It does seem rather limiting not to ask for more than a username and email address but it hasn’t limited what we are able to develop. Look for more features in the immediate future.

Better Job Feeds. Indeed!!!!

I’ve updated most of the pages so far to reflect our soon to be status as an affiliate with Indeed. Thais means that not only will I be able to receive income (limited as it may be) but it also works within the mission of the page.

The pages should be all set to go on Monday.

Google Fan Boy Strikes Again

Can I say how much I friggin’ love Google in a non-creepy fraternal sort of way.  Analytics was so worth the wait to get accepted for.

US Map showing JSL visits for the last 2 days

This is a map of where my visitors have come from over the last couple of days since I finally set up the Analysis.  The big circles indicates a larger concentration of visitors.  Way to go, Alabama.  Still love ya, Texas.
